Welby is an unincorporated community and a census-designated place located in and governed by Adams County, Colorado, United States. The CDP is a part of the Denver–Aurora–Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. Denver post office 80229 serves the area. The Welby CDP has an area of 2,432 acres (9.841 km2), including 60 acres (0.244 km2) of water. It has a total area of 3.800 sq mi (9.841 km2), of which is 3.705 sq mi (9.597 km2) being land and 0.094 sq mi (0.244 km2) being water. South Platte River forms a natural border to the east.
Major highways in Welby include Interstate 25 or I-25, CO-224. I-25 runs north and south and forms a natural border to the west and CO-224 to the south while the interchange of I-25 and I-270 occupies the southwestern area of the community. I-270 begins at an interchange with I-25 in Welby and is concurrent with US 36. Washington Street passes straight through and runs north and south connecting Thornton and North Washington. 78th Avenue begins from Washington Street and heads eastward then turns north and becomes Steele Street along the South Platte River. York Street begins from 78th Avenue and runs toward the south concurrent with Welby Road/Devonshire Boulevard towards the north. 88th Avenue runs east and west and forms a natural border to the north, it leads to an interchange with I-76 eastward outside of the city.
Welby is served by a few places of education including Monterey Elementary School on McElwain Boulevard, McElwain Elementary School on Dawson Drive, and Coronado Hills Elementary School on Downing Drive. Several pubs and food restaurants within the community including The Original Chubby’s Mexican Food, Fritangas Mexican Restaurant Thornton, Tacos Pachuco, Riccos Burritos, Mr. Egg and Grogan’s Pub. There are two parks in the community namely Rotella Park on Coronado Parkway and Steele Street Park on an unnamed road.
