Security-Widefield is a census-designated place (CDP) comprising the unincorporated communities of Security and Widefield located in and governed by El Paso County, Colorado, United States. The CDP is part of the Colorado Springs, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. El Paso County governs the unincorporated areas.
Security-Widefield CDP covers 8,625 acres (34.905 km2), including 309 acres (1.252 km2) of water.
Security-Widefield is bordered by Stratmoor to the northwest, the Colorado Springs Airport to the north, Fort Carson to the west and Fountain to the south. East-west running Fontaine Boulevard divides Security-Widefield into two parts. Local convention usually regards Security as the section that is north of Fontaine Boulevard, with Widefield considered to be the southern section.
Security-Widefield is served by several major highways including Interstate 25, U.S. Route 87 & 85, and State Highway 21. The only major highway running east-west is the Academy Boulevard emerging east from State Highway 115 interchange and then it goes north and then east and becomes Milton E Proby Parkway and ends at State Highway 21. Interstate 25 forms a natural border to the west and State Highway 21 to the east.
CanAm Highway serves as Security-Widefield’s main thoroughfare and is occupied with shopping areas and popular chain restaurants including Ross Dress for Less, Walgreens, H & H Tire and Auto Sales, Goodwill Fountain Store, McDonald’s, Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, Walmart Supercenter, Panda Express, Wendy’s, Big R Stores – Colorado Springs South, and Dairy Queen Grill & Chill.
Security-Widefield has several public and private schools including Pinello Elementary School, Sproul Junior High School, Widefield School District 3 Preschool, Watson Junior High School, Fountain Valley School of Colorado, Talbott Elementary School, Webster Elementary School, James Madison Charter Academy, Mesa Ridge High School, King Elementary School, Sunrise Elementary School, and French Elementary School.
