Northeast Colorado Springs is located in Colorado Springs, El Paso County, Colorado, just south of the Briargate and north of the Central and East parts of town. This area really started to see significant growth in the early 1970s as the city grew northward towards the United States Air Force Academy. This neighborhood straddles Interstate 25.
Serving as main thoroughfares in Northeast Colorado Springs are North Nevada Avenue and Austin Bluffs Parkway. Interstate 25 from the north splits into North Nevada Avenue halfway towards the south with both ends intersecting with East Filmore Street which forms a natural border to the south. West Rockrimmon Road enters through the west border and turns into East Woodmen Road as it intersects with Interstate 25 going east. Austin Bluffs Parkway runs east-west and serves as the main commercial strip. It intersects with North Union Boulevard that runs towards north almost forming a natural border to the east.
Northeast Colorado Springs is home to several open green spaces such as Pulpit Rock Park on Garlock Lane, Austin Bluffs Open Space on Recreation Way, Rockrimmon Open Space on Perfect View, and Ute Valley Open Space on Unnamed Road; as well as trails and hiking areas such as Edmondson Trail Head, on East Woodmen Road, and Cottonwood Creek Trail. The neighborhood is also home to the University of Colorado Colorado Springs on Austin Bluffs Parkway.
Northeast Colorado Springs is a booming area, Palmer Park and Chapel Hills Mall are both located in this area, along with many other popular attractions. Northeast Colorado Springs features higher-density residential and restaurants, retail, office, and other commercial development, especially along the North Nevada corridor near the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.
Schools for this particular area are a combination of Colorado Springs School District #11 and Academy District #20.
