Niwot is an unincorporated town, a post office, and a census-designated place (CDP) located in and governed by Boulder County, Colorado, United States. The CDP is a part of the Boulder, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Niwot CDP has an area of 2,563 acres (10.374 km2), including 5.9 acres (0.024 km2) of water.

 

Niwot is located along State Highway 119, halfway between Boulder and Longmont. State Highway 119 (SH 119) is a 63.7-mile-long (102.5 km) state highway in north central Colorado. It extends in a southwest to northeast direction, from a junction with U.S. Route 6 (US 6) in Clear Creek Canyon between Golden and Idaho Springs to a junction with Interstate 25 (I-25) east of Longmont. State Highway 52 (SH 52) is a 111 mi (178.6 km) long state highway in northeastern Colorado. The western terminus is at SH 119 near Niwot, and the eastern terminus is at SH 14 in Raymer. SH 52 forms a natural border to the south and SH 119 to the west. Niwot Road is the town’s main street stretching for about 4 miles or about 6 kilometers in west and east direction and ends east at U.S. Route 287.

 

Niwot Loop Trail Trailhead runs along Boulder and Left Hand Ditch, another trailhead up north of downtown is called LoBo trail on Dry Creek that runs on the northern border, to the west is the Monarch Trailhead Niwot off Monarch Road. Parks in the town include Niwot Children’s Park and Left Hand Grange Park. Niwot Elementary School and Niwot High School are right across from each other on Niwot Road while Boulder Valley Waldorf School is on the western side of the town.

 

Niwot is served by RTD transit with a parking area called Niwot RTD Park and Ride on the western end of Niwot Road.
