The City of Lafayette (/ˌlɑːfiːˈɛt, ˌlæf-/) is a home rule municipality located in southeastern Boulder County, Colorado, United States. It is a city in Boulder County. The total area of Lafayette is 9.3 square miles (24 km2), of which 9.3 square miles (24 km2) is land and 0.15 square miles (0.4 km2), or 1.50%, is water. Lafayette is bordered to the north and east by the town of Erie, to the east and south by Broomfield, and to the southwest by Louisville. Highway 287 runs through the city, linking the city to Longmont to the north and Broomfield to the south. State Highway 7 leads east from Lafayette to Brighton and west to Boulder. There is also an exit off Interstate 25 to the city.

 

Lafayette’s most popular recreation spot is Waneka Lake, a man-made reservoir in Waneka Lake Park near West Emma Street and Caria Drive. There are playground structures, shelter facilities, picnic tables, benches, fishing areas, and a 1.2-mile fitness trail for walking, biking, or running within Waneka Lake Park’s 147 acres. Lafayette’s oldest structure, the Waneka Granary, is located in Waneka Lake Park’s southeast corner.

 

Lafayette public schools belong to the Boulder Valley School District. Centaurus High School is Lafayette’s main high school. A kindergarten through high school program is available at Peak to Peak Charter School. Angevine Middle School serves the public middle school population. The elementary schools are Lafayette, Alicia Sanchez, Bernard D. ‘Pat’ Ryan STEAM school, and Pioneer Elementary. The Alexander Dawson School is a private K-12 school in the north part of town.
